The Eight Directions in Feng ShuiIf you have a feng shui consultant come and analyse your home, he or she will most likely divide it into eight different areas as determined by what are called the pa-kua directions. These locations are then divided into four good locations and four bad locations. The way a house sits and which direction it faces determine which directions (north, east, west, south, northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest) are good and which are not. The Good Locations:The Prime location traditionally called Fu Wei, is the same direction that the house sits towards. This area is very suited towards doors and is ideally suited for a bedroom. Old traditions say that having your bedroom in the Prime location will result in having more boys than girls. Feng shui tradition also says placing an aquarium or other water-related items here will help ward off bad luck. The Health location, the Tien Yi, is the location associated with good health and good friends. It is perfect for your dining room or even for a master bedroom. If you are ill or experiencing poor health, look at rearranging this room. The Longevity location, the Nien Yi, focuses on harmony, good health, and peace. Again, it is also a good room for a dining room or bedroom, especially for older couples. A cluttered Longevity room should be cleaned when there is family trouble. Finally, the Pros Pert location, the Sheng Chi, is the most powerful location. It is associated with finance, progress, and success. It's a good room to serve as a study or home office, and it is considered good luck to have your front door open to your Pros Pert room. The Bad Locations:The Death location, the Chueh Ming, is associated with illness and accidents. You don't ever want your front door associated with the Death location, but it is a good location for a bathroom since you can flush away all of the negative energy. The Six Shar location, or Lui Shar, is connected to loss, scandal, and procrastination. Again, it is ideally suited for a bathroom, but a kitchen can also work as a Six Shar. You do not want your home office or workspace situated here. The Disaster Location, or Ho Hai, is related to argument, legal problems, and anger. You do not want your bed in this room or aligned to this direction. Instead, make this room a storeroom or pantry. Finally, the Five Ghosts location, or Wu Kuei, is related to theft, fire, and financial problems. It is useful for a storeroom or bathroom but not as a home office. Once you know what four directions are positive for your home, it's important to arrange your furniture and your home in general so that everything works towards one of the four positive locations and directions. It's especially important to face one of the four positive directions when you're having a serious conversation, working on a project, or making any sort of big decision. |
